iamhomeschooling.com is a comprehensive homeschool website that provides valuable information and a vast compilation of resources to all homeschooling families, whether considering homeschooling, new to homeschooling, or veteran homeschoolers.

Homeschoolers nationwide will find helpful articles, support groups, umbrella schools, evaluators, curriculum resources, homeschool events and programs, printable planners and forms, organized links to educational websites and free resources, and more. Understanding the need for up-to-date information, and knowing first-hand how hard it is to find, we strive to keep our content current and relevant.

We also offer our own umbrella school for homeschoolers in the State of Florida. We operate as a home-based private school for grades K-12. We require annual attendance reporting in lieu of evaluations. Our school is affiliated with Florida Virtual School, and we can assist high school homeschoolers with dual enrollment at Florida community colleges and universities. Learn More

Summer Spelling Fun

Written by iamhomeschooling on Tuesday,July 12, 2011. Posted in Crafts and Activities

Looking for way to get your kids to practice their spelling words this summer? Here are four fun ideas for your kids to try (with a little help).

Use those phalanges! If you're lucky enough to live near the beach, grab some sunscreen and a spelling list and have your child practice writing spelling words in the sand. If you don't, that's okay, too! There's always Plan B! Fill a shallow baking tray with sand, rice, or sugar and have your child use his or her finger or unsharpened pencil to spell out words.

Make a splash! All you need is a paint brush and a bucket of water. Have your child paint their words outside on the warm concrete or on your exterior walls. If you're kids would prefer some color, try making some Super Sidewalk Paint—just don't use it on the walls!

Stick to it! What's more fun than a cool "bath" in the middle of a summer day? "Sticking" foam letters to the tub and tile walls, of course!

It's all in the balance! Make a summertime mobile. Help your child cut out fun shapes, like beach balls, watermelon slices, Popsicles, and picnic blankets, then have your child write spelling words on the backs. Tie the shapes to a hanger with string to make a fun mobile.

What kinds of fun, creative ideas have you tried?
